Macromedia has done for the web what Adobe did for the computers. Macromedia introduced Flash and Adobe introduced the electronic document or PDF as it is commonly known today. Each product provides cross platform capabilities with Flash Player and Adobe Reader respectively. Both the Flash player and Adobe reader are available free on the Internet and have been installed on over 97% of all Internet connected systems worldwide. Flash has been evolving since the 90's and has proven to be the prime advertising platform on the Internet today. The recent release (version 8.0) has improved database and XML interactivity and allows the website owners to offer streaming videos to customers using ON Technology's compression CODEC. Could this spell trouble for Real Media Player and Microsoft Media Player? Only time will tell. |
